PROJECTS
Two examples of extensive research projects are summarized below.

Recruiting Experience | User Study
We wanted to understand what it's like for our employees when they seek (or sought) new opportunities with the company. Â Spending time with and allowing them to show us exactly how they feel about the candidate experience gave us insights as to how we could better support people as they transition into and out of roles at the firm.

Methods: interviewing, virtual collaging (participants used words and pictures to express their feelings about their experience with job seeking and career exploration)

Impact: approx. 100, 000 employees

Deliverables: artifacts (virtual collages created by participants); summary of findings, experience map

Lessons Learned: Embarking on a new job or career move is an intricate process that often takes a lot of energy.  We learned that the experience with some of the tools and processes intended to support that process were actually deterring people from wanting to use them.  Findings from this study are guiding efforts to improve the candidate experience - not necessarily making it easier to get the job, but at least working to make it easier to use the tools necessary to pursue it.

Employee Profile | Redesign
Our employee profile needed an overhaul. Â I sought to understand the users' pain points with maintaining the profile and used their input to guide the new design. Â A compromise with the vendor allowed us to greatly improve the navigation and content display.
Â
Methods: metric review; focus groups, usability testing, prototyping
Â
Impact: approx. 100, 000 employees

Deliverables: summary of findings, recommendations, interactive iRise prototype
Â
Lessons Learned:Â
It's a challenge to conduct the research and create the prototype.  Ideally, it's a job for at least 2 teams (1:1, researchers: designers).

Technical limitations can be discouraging, especially after you've spent many hours visualizing the "perfect" interactions for the situation.  However, it's  a great feeling to make significant enhancements that people appreciate.

I'm not just a researcher. Among other things, I dabble in design from time to time.

Here are a few examples of visual design work.
